Magpies manager has seemingly short memory.
“I saw a headline saying Arsenal are flying the flag for Britain in the Champions League, but I had to wonder where that British involvement was when I saw the team.
“It is important we don’t lose sight that this is the English Premier League and English players should be involved. I know it is difficult to buy British players because the market is expensive.” – Alan Pardew, West Ham United manager, 2006.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is seemingly in possession of a very short memory.
fanatix has found an old news report on ESPN in which Pardew criticises Arsenal at some length for their focus on foreign imports.
Fast-forward to the future and Pardew is currently operating on a seemingly self-imposed ban to only purchase players from France’s Ligue 1. Pardew had already created a strong French contingent at St James’ Park with the likes of Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse, Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye having made their way through the St James Park door. This transfer window has seen their compatriots Mathieu Debuchy and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa join them with Yoan Gouffran and Massadio Haidara expected to follow.
Newcastle are now more French than Arsenal!
Really, Alan? Very interesting…
