The Newcastle Knights are facing yet another assault scandal after youngster Joseph Tapine was charged over an alleged pub assault which left a man with a broken jaw.
Police say the incident occurred at a hotel in Merewhether on September 21 and charged Tapine assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
Reports suggest police will allege the Knights forward got into an argument with a 19-year-old man outside the premises and punched him in the face, breaking his jaw.
Tapine has been issued with a court attendance notice to face a local court next month.
It is the latest in a string of incidences involving Knights players, with Russell Packer jailed in January over an assault, while Zane Tetevano was sacked after pleading guilty to smashing the windscreen of a taxi.
