Aussi could be on his way back to the Premier League in January.
Newcastle and Tottenham are among the clubs interested in signing New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill, according to the Irish Independent.
Cahill left Everton this summer to join Thierry Henry and co. in MLS but said last month that he was keen to return to the Premier League on a short-term loan deal during the US off-season.
A return to Goodison Park seemed his most likely destination but it is understood that Newcastle, Tottenham, Sunderland and QPR are all interested in the 33-year-old.
New Hoops boss Harry Redknapp is likely to be busy in January and has already stated that he is keen to take advantage of loans from MLS, with former Spurs striker Robbie Keane, now of LA Galaxy, also on his wish-list.
Newcastle, meanwhile, need midfield reinforcements after Yohan Cabaye was ruled out until late February and Australian international Cahill could be the perfect stop-gap for Alan Pardew’s struggling side.
Cahill was a big hit at Everton after joining from Millwall in 2004, scoring 56 goals in 226 games, before leaving this summer to join the Red Bulls.
He has played 14 matches, scoring once, as the MLS club finished third in the Eastern Conference to reach the play-offs, where they were knocked out by DC United.
Henry, meanwhile, is certain to join Arsenal for a third spell, while Keane’s teammate Landon Donovan could be set for the a third loan deal with Everton, who also retain an interest in former star Cahill.
