The New York Jets are looking to avoid a fifth straight defeat and they will have to do so against a resurgent Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
The AFC East rivals meet on Thursday night with Jets coach Rex Ryan looking to end their longest losing streak in seven years, and it looks as though he will continue to keep his faith in quarterback Geno Smith.
The second-year signal-caller has completed 57.1 percent of his passes and thrown six touchdowns. However, he also has seven interceptions for an NFL-low 69.7 passer rating.
Nevertheless, Ryan still believes that he is a better option that back-up quarterback Michael Vick, despite the Jets faithful calling for the former Philadelphia Eagles man to become their starter.
However, that isn’t the only problem at the franchise currently, with their running game and defense not even close to where Ryan wants it to be.
To add to their problems, starting cornerback Dee Milliner suffered a season-ending Achilles injury last Sunday and now they must face a Patriots team that has scored 80 points in its last two games.
Brady has won six straight regular-season home games against the Jets and will be looking to keep that run alive as he continues to dismiss suggestions that both he and the Patriots are on the decline after a poor start to the season.
Star tight end Rob Gronkowski appears to be back in form with 13 receptions for 194 yards and a touchdown in the last two games, which is in addition to his three scores in his first four outings of the campaign.
However, running back Stevan Ridley will reportedly be sidelined for the rest of the season with a knee injury while linebacker Jerod Mayo is also out for the year with the same problem.
As a result, despite history favouring Brady and New England, it remains to be seen how they react to their injury woes against a Jets team determined to put an end to their recent misery.
