The 22-year-old officially joined Spurs on Monday after the clubs agreed a reported transfer fee of £1.5 million for Holtby, who has won three caps for Germany and has captained the Under-21 side.
“I’m looking forward to the new challenge,” he told German Sky Sports.
“Everything will be completely new, but I am a very outgoing player who likes to take on new challenges.
“I think for all parties involved it was important to get some clarity. It was the best solution for all involved.”
With his Schalke contract set to expire in June, Holtby had already committed to joining Spurs next season in a deal valid until 2018, but injury to their Brazil star Sandro means he is needed in north London now.
Having made his last appearance for Schalke in Saturday’s goalless draw at relegation-threatened Augsburg, Holtby said he was glad to have been able to play two German league matches in 2013 before heading to London.
“I am grateful that I could still play for Schalke and I want to thank the fans for supporting me to the end,” he said.
With his Everton-supporting father hailing from Liverpool, Holtby speaks fluent English, but says he will keep up his German when talking to Spurs assistant coach Steffen Freund.
So far this term Holtby has scored four goals in 27 appearances for Schalke.
Reports in Britain said Holtby will move to London from Germany at the weekend, ruling him out of Tottenham’s matches against Norwich and West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday and Sunday respectively.
Tottenham, knocked out of the FA Cup by second-tier Leeds on Sunday, are currently fourth in the Premier League and pushing for a place in next season’s Champions League.
