Golden State Warriors assistant coach Alvin Gentry has reportedly become the frontrunner for the Chicago Bulls coaching role if Tom Thibodeau leaves.

It has been widely reported for some time that the Bulls wish to part company with Thibodeau, and their exit from the playoffs on Thursday night would not have helped his argument to stay.
Chicago were embarrassed in Game 6 against the Cleveland Cavaliers at the United Center, as they ultimately fell to a 4-2 series defeat in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.
It was speculated that not even a championship could have saved Thibodeau anyway, and reports have started to link various names as being his replacement.
Iowa State’s coach Fred Hoiberg has also been a familiar name that has cropped up, but his heart related issues have raised questions as to whether or not he would keen on stepping up into the NBA at this stage.
“Sources near that situation say Hoiberg, who’s been dealing with heart related issues and had another heart procedure last month, may not be looking to jump to the NBA and the stress level associated with it,” Basketball Insiders reported.
“If the Bulls do part ways with Thibodeau, it’s unclear who they would target as his replacement. Sources peg Warriors assistant Alvin Gentry as a serious front runner.”
Gentry has enjoyed great success with the Warriors this season as he works with rookie coach Steve Kerr, but it is no secret that he would consider a top job elsewhere in the league if it was the right move.
Even though the Bulls continue to disappoint, they still have a strong core with the likes of Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic while Jimmy Butler will likely sign a max deal this summer.
In addition, they have future first-round Draft picks to continue to improve the team, but perhaps the most important aspect is that Gentry could bring the kind of offensive creativity that this team desperately needs to go with their defensive mentality that they have established under Thibodeau.
