LeBron makes Cavs return: (Video) James features in pre-season game against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Wade still friends with LeBron: Heat star still close with former team-mate.
Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James has insisted that it isn’t much of an issue for him to face his former team, the Miami Heat, ahead of a pre-season clash.
The two teams face each other as part of the NBA Global Games this summer, with the game taking place in Brazil. It will be the Cavs’ second pre-season game after they defeated coach David Blatt’s former team, Maccabi Tel Aviv, 107-80 on Sunday.
However, their next encounter will pit James and new team-mates Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love against his former team-mates, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The two-time NBA champion has downplayed the significance of the game and believes that the edge will be missing as it’s not in an NBA environment.
“It’s not much of an issue for me going up against Miami, I think,” James said.
“It’s a preseason game. It’s in Brazil so it’s not really on an NBA floor, as well. But it gives us an opportunity to keep on continuing to broaden the game in a huge, worldwide aspect and it will be great for both teams.”
Meanwhile, center Anderson Varejao is relishing the opportunity of being the team’s tour guide in his homeland, but he believes that he is probably better known in Cleveland than in Brazil.
Nevertheless, Blatt insists that they will be following his lead during the trip as they continue their preparations for the new NBA season, with the Cavaliers the strong favourites to win the championship with their new ‘Big Three’.
