Napoli host Roma in the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final clash, with the visitors looking to preserve their slender 3-2 lead as Fiorentina await in the final.
Having raced into a two-goal lead in the first leg in Rome, the Giallorossi looked on course to reach the final with ease. However, Rafa Benitez’s side produced the perfect response to keep the tie alive, although Gervinho’s late goal handed the capital club the slight advantage.
Both teams were attacking and scored fantastic goals last week, and more of the same could be expected in Naples as the second and third best teams in Serie A go head-to-head with a cup final within their grasp.
Napoli will be confident of their chances of overturning their deficit with the support of the San Paolo behind them, and their 3-1 win over AC Milan at the weekend was arguably the ideal preparation as Gonzalo Higuain continues to be a pivotal part of their success.
The Argentinian has been hailed as an all-round better striker for the club than Edinson Cavani, as although the PSG star’s goals were vital, Higuain offers more to the team with regards to build-up play and assists.
However, Benitez will be wary of the threat posed by Gervinho who was in great form in the first encounter, although the visitors have goalscoring threat right across their team with the likes of Francesco Totti and Kevin Strootman.
Having lost in the final to bitter city rivals Lazio last year, Roma will be determined to return and right the wrongs under new leadership in Rudi Garcia.
While it is almost impossible to decide on which way this one will go, both teams will be looking to attack and secure a date with the Viola in May.
