Partenopei line up alternatives to Argentine striker.
Napoli expect a decision from Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain in the next 48 hours, as the club identify alternatives in case the Argentine rejects their offer.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Partenopei have submitted their bid to both the club and player, and will now await a decision before evaluating other targets this summer.
It is understood that the Italian giants have offered €37m plus €3m in bonuses for the 25-year-old, and will offer the striker a deal worth €6m per season, which reportedly dwarves what is being offered by rivals Arsenal.
While the Italian media suggest that Napoli have emerged as the favourites to land the Madrid striker, it now remains to be seen whether their offer satisfies all parties as they hope to see Higuain replace the recently departed Edinson Cavani.
However, should that plan fail then the Serie A outfit have identified various other potential targets this summer, including the likes of Porto striker Jackson Martinez and Chelsea’s Demba Ba.
Gazzetta also report that Leandro Damiao, Alexis Sanchez, Eden Dzeko and Burak Yilmaz remain on coach Rafa Benitez’s short-list, but they will only be considered if a deal can’t be reached for Higuain who remains the priority.
Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis moved to reassure fans on Tuesday, as there is a great deal of anxiety over how the club will strengthen ahead of the new campaign.
The movie mogul has insisted that the club will be competitive next season, but he will be hopeful that deals can be reached sooner rather than later as the pre-season schedule gets under-way.
