Benitez eyes reunion with fellow Spaniard as Cesar continues to stall.
Napoli coach Rafa Benitez is ready to switch his attention to Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina as talks for Julio Cesar continue to stall.
The Partenopei had been expected to secure a deal for the Brazilian international, but it is understood that the 33-year-old is hesitating over a move to Naples.
While it is has been speculated that there is an agreement in place with QPR, the player himself has been unable to decide on the move as negotiations over personal terms go on.
As a result, the Serie A giants have looked at other possibilities this summer, and La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Benitez has identified a possible reunion with Reina as his priority.
The 31-year-old spent five years working with Benitez at Liverpool, and became one of his most reliable performers as they brought success back to Anfield.
It is understood that Reina has the same agent as the Spanish tactician and this could help negotiations as Benitez continues to add compatriots to his squad ahead of his first season in charge of Napoli.
Reina could join the likes of Jose Callejon and Raul Albiol at the club, as it is clear that Napoli require a new man between the sticks with current number one Morgan De Sanctis awaiting the green light to complete a move to rivals Roma.
The Liverpool custodian has been linked with moves to Premier League rivals over the past year or so, but it remains to be seen whether the appeal of working under Benitez again is too big to turn down.
