The Scot is pleased with the win but thinks there is still a lot of work to do.
In a Premier League weekend full of surprises, Manchester United got back in the title race with a 1-0 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford.
With Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur also losing and Chelsea drawing at home to West Bromwich Albion, it means that the Red Devils are now just five points off the top spot.
It was the first major win of the season for new United manager David Moyes, but the 50-year-old is refusing to get carried away after the victory.
“I am not singing and dancing because we won the game, I am thrilled because the boys put in a great performance,” Moyes was quoted by ITV.
“It’s another step in the right direction but we have a lot of big steps. It is going to take a while for me to get it the way I’d like.
“We are going to get a few bloody noses along the way but this Premier League has shown it is not just Manchester United who are going to get a few of them, there are other teams as well.”
Although the performance against the Gunners was hardly world beating, the home side defended well and took advantage of their one standout chance to win the game.
With youngsters such as Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling all playing well it will be pleasing for Moyes to see that there is a promising future at the club.
