Ba, Eto’o and Torres have been goal shy but the manager is sticking with them.
Despite the fact that strikers Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres have all looked shaky in front of goal this season, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho won’t make any January transfers.
Between the three forwards they have netted just 10 goals in all competitions this term and despite experimenting with all three up front, none seem to be able to find any goal-scoring form.
As a result the Blues have been linked with moves for Colombian superstars Jackson Martinez of FC Porto and AS Monaco’s Radamel Falcao.
However, Mourinho has dispelled these rumours and may have alarmed some of the Stamford Bridge faithful by pledging the 50-year-old’s trust in the current crop.
“If we had eight-10-12 goals [from the strikers] we would be top of the league,” the Portuguese coach was quoted by the Telegraph.
“That’s a reality but my strikers give everything and the team works hard.
“Of course we want the best possible results, but I am not waiting for players, I am not asking for players.
“This is a period for the club and this is a period of my team where we have to try and improve the players we have and try to build a future.”
The west London club slumped to a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of Stoke City in the Premier League at the weekend and although Arsenal could only manage a draw with Everton on Sunday, the Gunners are now five points clear at the top of the table.
