7. Laundry basket
In an astonishing accusation in 2005, whilst banned from having any contact with the team for a Champions League tie with Bayern Munich, Mourinho apparently went to extreme lengths to do just that.
It’s said that the boss hid in the dressing room and watched the game, passing messages to assistant Rui Faria via an earpiece, before being wheeled out of the ground in a laundry basket.
UEFA took no action.
6. Controversy with Anders Frisk
After defeat to Barca in Europe Mourinho claimed he had seen opposite number Rikjaard go into referee Frisk’s dressing room at half-time.
The Catalan boss denied this and no action on Frisk was ever taken, but the accusation ruined the Swiss official’s career after death threats were received.
5. Second coming
Once it became apparent Mourinho would be leaving Real Madrid this summer, many predicted the vacant Blues position would be high on the agenda.
This was not after flirtations with the Manchester United role however, with reports from Spain claiming the former FC Porto ace cried when Ferguson did not make him the Scot’s successor.
“When he knew that Ferguson had chosen Moyes, the Everton coach, he was struck by a terrible disbelief,” a book by journalists Diego Torres was quoted by the Guardian.
“His ‘interlocutors’ had heard him sob loudly and they were spreading the word.”
4. Omelettes
Like a certain Eric Cantona in the 1990s, Mourinho liked to use poetic analogies to explain certain points – such as this gem as to Ambramovich’s lack of financial support in the transfer market.
