Zelalem looks set to be the next big thing at the Emirates.
Arsenal scout Danny Karbassiyoon was the man that discovered midfield starlet Gedion Zelalem and has revealed just how good the 17-year-old is.
There is a lot of hype surrounding the teenager, who made his professional debut for the Gunners this season during the 4-0 FA Cup triumph against Coventry City.
Although born in Germany, Zelalem was discovered by Karbassiyoon in American capital Washington DC and the 29-year-old believes the midfielder possesses supreme talent.
“When I go look for players, I’m always looking for guys that are intelligent, technically top, and excellent at the basics of the game,” the scout said in a reddit AMA session.
“I watched Gedion for 20 minutes during a training session in the thick of winter in DC and knew immediately that I wanted to take him on trial.
“He never lost the ball, showed incredible awareness and was technically top. His awareness of what is around him – both on and off the ball – makes him stand out in my opinion.”
Zelalem is a player who generally likes to operate in attacking midfield, but can also drop deeper or play on the right-hand side and could follow in the steps of Serge Gnabry by breaking into the first team.
Both are young Germans who are considered to be the hottest prospects at the Emirates Stadium currently, as manager Arsene Wenger oversees something of a German revolution in north London.
The 18-year-old Gnabry has made 16 appearances for Wenger’s side to date, including 12 this term and scoring his first goal for the club in Premier League victory against Crystal Palace.
