Man City defender rumoured to be ready to make shock move to Chelsea
Micah Richards has been rumoured by The Mail to be ready to make a move to Chelsea after making an unexpected appearance at Stamford Bridge last night.
The Blues suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to struggling QPR but their fans may be buoyed by the prospect of signing the England right-back.
When asked about Richards, who has spent most of the season sidelined with injury, Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez refused to rule out a move for the player.
Chelsea have struggled to identify a settled player for the position, with Branislav Ivanovic often being asked to fill in but preferring a more central role and Cesar Azpilicueta failing to assert himself despite starting the previous five games.
Richards has found his first team opportunities limited this season to just three appearances after a combination of injuries, the summer signing Maicon and the continued good form of Pablo Zabaleta.
Chelsea appear to ready to offer Richards the prospect of a regular starting berth.
Richards, who narrowly missed out on a place in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad instead playing for Team GB in the Olympics, is said to be keen to prove he still has what it takes in order to break back into the England fold.
