Luke Shaw could be set for the first massive move of his career…
Manchester United will move for Southampton’s 18-year-old prodigy Luke Shaw if the move for Everton’s Leighton Baines proves too difficult, reports the Express.
United boss David Moyes has already had a £28m double bid for Toffees duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines rejected, with Everton describing the offer as ‘derisory and insulting’. Although United are planning on returning with an improved £35m offer, Roberto Martinez will not want to sell the pair.
As a result, the Premier League champions could turn their attentions to Southampton’s 18-year-old wonderkid Luke Shaw. Shaw made 26 appearances for the Saints last term, and proved to be as capable going forward as he is at defending. His technical ability meant he could start attacks with clever passes into the midfield, rather than just long diagonal balls.
Shaw is all set to eventually step into Ashley Cole’s boots as England’s starting left-back. Despite only playing one full season, United could stump up £10m for his services, such is his undeniable talent.
The last time Southampton received that kind of money for a talented left-back, Tottenham ended up with Gareth Bale…
The Saints though, are a rich club, and will likely demand more than £10m for Shaw’s services. If Baines proves unattainable, don’t be surprised to see United go all out for Shaw as a long-term Patrice Evra replacement.
