David Moyes is desperate to reunite with Baines and Fellaini…
Manchester United will make a second formal double bid for Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines, reports the Daily Mirror.
David Moyes is desperate to sign his former Goodison Park stars, having so far failed to bring in a marquee signing all summer.
Having already had a £28m bid for Fellaini and Baines flatly rejected, which Everton described as ‘derisory and insulting’, United will return with a larger, seemingly more respectable offer.
The £35m set to be offered rates the powerful Belgian midfielder at around £20m, which is still only £5m than the Toffees paid for him back in 2008.
It rates Baines at £15m, as the 28-year-old left-back has been one of the most exciting players in the country for the past few seasons. His barnstorming runs up the flank means he is strongly challenging Ashley Cole for the England starting spot.
Everton’s new boss Roberto Martinez claims United’s pursuit is a waste of time, but the £35m fee would encourage the Toffees to at least sit down at the negotiating table. If any deal were to be done, both clubs would want to do it quickly, but especially Everton – so they had time to reinvest the money back into the team.
