Moyes wants talented Serb as long-term Ferdinand replacement…
Manchester United have earmarked Borussia Dortmund’s 24-year-old centre-back Neven Subotic as their top January defensive target, reports Sports Direct News.
The impressive Serbian could set United back around £20m, although Dortmund would unlikely be prepared to enter negotiations in the first place.
United have a number of options at centre-back already, with Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones waiting in the wings should the first-choice pairing pick up an injury.
However, aging defensive pair Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic were humiliated by a rampant Manchester City side at the weekend, losing 4-1, and Moyes reckons it’s time to bring in a top class replacement.
Phil Jones wants to eventually be given a prolonged run at centre-half, but with Ferdinand 34-years-old, and Vidic 31-years-old, Moyes wants to add another proven defender in January instead.
Subotic has won two Bundesliga titles with the German giants, and helped them reach the Champions League final last season, which they narrowly lost to Bayern Munich. Despite representing the USA at youth level, he has picked up 36 caps for Serbia, and at only 24-years-old, could well be a worthwhile investment for the Premier League champions.
