The Red Devils are keeping tabs on Sagna.
Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna looks certain to leave the club this summer when his contract expires and Manchester United have emerged as surprise candidates to sign the Frenchman, according to the Daily Star.
Manchester City are known to be interested in the France international, along with a host of foreign clubs – including Galatasaray, Inter Milan and AS Monaco.
Yet United have now come to the forefront of proceedings as they look to oversee an overhaul of their squad following their worst ever Premier League season.
The sacking of manager David Moyes on Tuesday brought to an end a difficult period for the English champions, in which they are already certain to finish with their worst ever Premier League points tally and will fail to make the Champions League for the first time since 1995.
With veterans Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra all expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer, defence will be a key area for improvement.
Moyes experimented with Rafael, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling at right-back this term, with the Brazilian the only one to truly impress.
However, the experience of Sagna – both domestically and for the French international team – would make the 31-year-old a much better option than the South American.
It’s understood that the defender wants a three-year contract with wages of around £100,000-a-week, something that City are prepared to pay but may seem a little steep for a player of his age.
