United are to swoop again for Baines.
As transfer deadline day creeps increasingly closer Manchester United are once again to turn to Everton and try and sign defensive star Leighton Baines, reports the Daily Express.
David Moyes has been quiet in the market so far this summer since taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, with Uruguayan full-back Guillermo Varela the only new face.
United have been strongly linked with both Baines and Marouane Fellaini for some time, due to the relationship between Moyes and the pair from the Scot’s tenure with the Toffees.
The Red Devils have already had a £12m bid turned down for the left-back, but that hasn’t put off the Premier League champions and the club are considering a £40m double offer for both Fellaini and the England international.
Moyes is starting to take more and more interest in Baines due to the fact that Patrice Evra is thought to be on the way back to AS Monaco and Alexander Buttner not having impressed enough to make the step up to the starting XI permanently.
The Englishman was in superb form again last season, playing all 38 of the Merseyside club’s Premier League matches and scoring seven goals and providing nine assists.
Baines was named in the division’s Team of the Year once again for the 2012/13 season and also started to establish himself as a serious contender for a place ahead of Ashley Cole in the England national team.
United fans are beginning to become anxious that Moyes has been so quiet with the 50-year-old’s spending and signing Baines would go some way to allaying those fears.
