Sevilla’s Kondogbia is a much sought after player.
There is bad news for Chelsea as Premier League rivals Manchester United are set to beat the Blues to the signing of Sevilla midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, reports the Metro.
The 20-year-old has been earning a reputation in Spain as one of the finest young players in Europe and a host of top sides have been keeping a close eye on the Frenchman.
Kondogbia only arrived at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in the summer of 2012 following a £3.5m move from Ligue 1 side Lens.
Yet in just 12 months the France under-20 international has been making a big name for himself and is likely to cost United a lot more than that in the current market.
During his first season in Spain Kondogbia played an impressive 37 times for the first team which included 23 starts in La Liga.
Mostly deployed as a defensive midfielder the former Lens man can also operate further up the pitch and would strengthen the Red Devils in an area they are probably most weak.
The retirement of Paul Scholes and the long-term absence of Darren Fletcher means that new United boss David Moyes only has Michael Carrick, Anderson and Tom Cleverley to choose from in central midfield.
A deal for Kondogbia to Old Trafford is believed to be close, especially because of Sevilla’s current financial issues – despite having already sold Jesus Navas and Luis Alberto to Manchester City and Liverpool respectively.
Although the Frenchman is valued by the club at £15m it’s thought that a bid in the region of £8m could tempt them to part with their young starlet.
Watch what United fans can look forward to with skills and goals from Kondogbia.
