Manchester United centre forward Robin Van Persie has been ruled out for a month with a thigh injury.
Manager David Moyes revealed that the Dutchman picked up the injury in the club’s 1-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League when taking a corner.
Having missed the last few months with a groin strain, this further setback is a clear concern for Manchester United and Van Persie, with the player having enjoyed two full seasons without injuries prior to this campaign.
The Red Devils must now traverse the difficult Christmas period without their star striker, and given that Man Utd are currently ninth in the table, and 13 points off leaders Arsenal, their task of at least qualifying for the UEFA Champions League has just become decidedly more difficult.
