However, speculation suggests Rooney will be used in swap deal for Ronaldo.
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is expected to tell new boss David Moyes that he wishes to stay at the club, however, the former Everton manager could use him in a swap deal for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Both Rooney and Moyes will return from holiday this week and according to the Daily Mirror, the pair will meet to determine whether the England international’s future lies at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old stunned Sir Alex Ferguson with a second transfer request at the end of last season, with suggestions that he was displeased with his change of position following the arrival of Robin Van Persie.
However, rumours appear to suggest that he had no intention of leaving the club, despite Ferguson revealing the situation ahead of his final game in charge.
Moyes will have a major decision to make on his first day at Old Trafford, with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal waiting to pounce should Rooney’s future lie elsewhere.
In the meantime, the Daily Star believe the opposite scenario will take place, and that United are in fact ready to use Rooney as a bargaining tool in a deal to bring back Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese ace has been linked with a return this summer, and it is believed that incoming manager Carlo Ancelotti is a huge fan of Rooney.
However, much will depend on talks between Moyes and the United star as there may yet be a future at the club for the disgruntled star.
