It seems as if Evra will be departing Old Trafford.
Patrice Evra’s contract at Manchester United expires at the end of the current season and while the club want the Frenchman to stay, the defender is less keen.
The 32-year-old has spent nine years at Old Trafford and has won five Premier League titles and the Champions League, but is now ready for a new challenge.
“It is not that Manchester United do not want me to sign a new contract. This whole thing is personal,” Evra told Telefoot.
“Manchester United would like me to finish my career there, but this is something personal.”
What the left-back means by ‘personal’ is not elaborated on, but it looks as if Red Devils manager David Moyes should be on the hunt for a replacement as soon as possible.
The obvious choice would seem to be Everton ace Leighton Baines, who Moyes managed for six years at Goodison Park and who the club tried to sign over the summer.
The Scot has a good working relationship with the England international and Baines is currently recognised as one of the best full-backs in European football.
However, because of this the Toffees are understandably not very keen to part with their best player and United would probably have to pay a significant sum.
Another option for the English champions could be Southampton youngster Luke Shaw, who has been impressing at St Mary’s for the past two seasons.
The defender is still only 18-years-old though and therefore it would be a big ask for the teenager to step into Evra’s boots.
