West Bromwich Albion success story could be on his way to Old Trafford in January.
Manchester United are thought to be considering a bid for West Bromwich Albion star Claudio Yacob, who has been a roaring success since his free transfer in July.
Yacob was actually released by Racing Club de Avellaneda last summer, who will be kicking themselves now, and West Brom were delighted to sign him up for what has proven to be the bargain of the season so far.
The 25 year-old has been a revelation, with no player making more successful tackles than he up until November this season, and he has offered tremendous protection to the Baggies’ back four throughout the campaign.
Manchester United’s defence is on paper at least amongst the best in the country, but has come under plenty of criticism this season for being surprisingly porous.
Players such as Rio Ferdinand, Rafael, Patrice Evra, Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and the returning Nemanja Vidic ought to be good enough quality to fend off most teams’ attacking lines.
However, perhaps it is not the defence that is the problem.
Instead, Manchester United’s lack of an enforcer in midfield could be the issue, and multiple UK newspapers reported that Sir Alex Ferguson had sent scouts to watch the Argentina international in action this season.
Signing Claudio Yacob from West Bromwich Albion could liberate Manchester United’s midfield – and plug the gaping holes at the back.
