How the Red Devils will probably line up after all their summer dealings.
The Premier League champions waited until the last minute to tie up their transfer activities, when Manchester United snapped up Marouane Fellaini from Everton in a £27.5m deal.
Now that the Belgian has joined the ranks at Old Trafford, here’s how fanatix thinks manager David Moyes will line-up the United team this term.
GK – De Gea: Easy choice. An ever improving goalkeeper who’s handling is beginning to match the Spaniard’s impressive reflexes. Will play every important game if fit.
RB – Rafael: Something of a problem area for United since the retirement of Gary Neville, but against predictions Rafael has improved at a far greater rate than brother Fabio and now needs to ensure the Brailian’s defending is as strong as when the full-back goes forward.
LB – Evra: The Red Devils’ constant pursuit of Leighton Baines and then last ditch effort to sign Fabio Coentrao seemed bizarre, when Evra had arguably the Frenchman’s best season in 2012/13 since arriving at Old Trafford.
CB – Ferdinand: Despite being 34 Ferdinand, like Evra, enjoyed something of a renaissance campaign last term and looked as strong as the defender ever has at the back.
CB – Vidic: United’s central defence is one of the most solid in the country and if Vidic can stay fit, should partner Ferdinand for most of the season.
DM – Carrick: Has developed in one of the most influential midfielders for both club and country and pulls all the strings for the Red Devils.
CM – Fellaini: It will be interesting to see how the Belgian fits into Moyes’ set-up at Old Trafford, having operated as a No.10 with the Toffees – but at £27.5m Fellaini will be straight in the team.
CM – Cleverley: A dubious addition as despite the Englishman’s obvious talent, there is a call for a reshuffle in formation to compensate for highly rated – yet inexplicably overlooked – Shinji Kagawa.
RF – Rooney: Although the 27-year-old is most effective through the middle, the forward can operate out wide and will be asked to do so with a certain Van Persie taking the central spot.
LF – Welbeck: Like other youngsters at the club Welbeck is beginning to develop into a top-class player and performances this season have repaid Moyes’ faith in the forward.
ST – Van Persie: After playing every match for United last term, most at Old Trafford will be hoping the Dutchman can do the same this time around. The side’s most important player.
