Reports on how long the Belgium international will actually be out for vary, but the Red Devils will certainly have to spend a lengthy spell without the 25-year-old.
This may not be too disappointing to many United fans as Fellaini has not enjoyed the best of times since making a £27.5m move from Everton on transfer deadline day.
The arrival of the Belgian seemed like a last resort as the Premier League champions had already failed in attempts to bring in Thiago Alcantara, Cesc Fabregas and Ander Herrera.
Since the switch Fellaini has suffered with poor form and David Moyes has often left out the midfielder anyway because of this.
