Manchester United linked with bringing best goalkeeper in Ligue 1 to Old Trafford.
Manchester United are considering a move for AS Saint Etienne goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier, fanatix has learned.
fanatix tickets – Barclays Premier League tickets are still available for next weekend’s games.
Sunderland vs Manchester United tickets are on sale from £27 for the match on March 30th at the Stadium of Light.
The ASSE star has long been linked with a move to Arsenal, and now it appears that Arsene Wenger may have competition in the race to sign Ruffier.
Manchester United’s current custodian David De Gea has come under plenty of criticism this season, but the move for Ruffier would not mean the end of the Spaniard’s Old Trafford career.
Rather, bringing the France international to Old Trafford would be a way to offer genuine competition for De Gea, whilst taking him out the limelight on occasion. Current backup option Anders Lindegaard is not thought to be the long term answer to Manchester United’s issues in the position.
David De Gea has given plenty of brilliant performances for the Red Devils – not least his most recent match against Fulham, but a similarly great game against Tottenham Hotspur was marred by an error at the end to allow Spurs to equalise.
In terms of experience, 26 year-old Ruffier has four years on De Gea, 22.
However, De Gea has won the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup, as well as the UEFA Under-21 Championship with Spain – a far more impressive honour roll than that of Ruffier.
A move for Ruffier would not signal the end of De Gea’s Old Trafford career, but would simply allow him the time to develop into a world class Manchester United goalkeeper.
As for Arsenal, perhaps they will look to enact a similar strategy with a move for Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic as more senior competition for current number one Wojciech Szczesny.
