Everton boss Roberto Martinez says United have not made a bid for this two star players…
Roberto Martinez, Everton’s new manager, has assured supporters that no bids have been made yet for either Marouane Fellaini or Leighton Baines, reports the Daily Mail.
Fellaini is reportedly Manchester United’s primary midfield target after missing out on Thiago and Cesc Fabregas, while Baines could be brought in to replace the ageing Patrice Evra after a brilliant season at Goodison Park.
United’s new boss David Moyes brought both Fellaini and Baines to Everton, and developed them into two of the most impressive players in the top-flight. The Scottish manager moved to the Premier League champions this summer following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, and is keen to reunite with the pair, who helped his Everton side to a sixth place finish last term.
Martinez, Moyes Everton replacement, has promised fans that his club has received no bids for either of the players.
“There are no bids. When you read that someone is interested in someone, it doesn’t mean there is a bid on the table,” said the 40-year-old.
“Marouane has been working really hard. Leighton Baines has been working really hard for the team and that’s all that matters.
“Headlines in the media happen at this time of the season unfortunately but it won’t distract me from the work we have to do. I’m not bothered at all,” the Spanish boss added.
A clause in Fellaini’s contract meant that Everton had to accept bids of £23m from Champions League clubs, but this has now expired, and the Toffees would be expected to play hardball should United come in with an official bid. The 25-year-old scored 12 goals for Everton last season, while Baines was equally as impressive; assisting five goals from left-back, and earning rave reviews for a string of dynamic performances.
