Impressive left back wanted at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are reportedly scouting Eintracht Frankfurt left back Bastian Oczipka as they search for a player to replace Patrice Evra.
The Frenchman is in the twilight of his career, and current understudy Alexander Buttner has only been trusted with one Premier League start so far this season.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long term admirer of Leighton Baines of Everton, but was seemingly priced out of a deal for the 28 year-old, with the Toffees reportedly demanding upwards of £15 million.
Man Utd don’t often pay that much for a player over the age of 27, with Robin Van Persie a rare exception to the rule.
Instead, it would appear that the Premier League giants will look to 23 year-old Bastian Oczipka as Evra’s successor, and Oczipka possesses many similar attributes to original target Baines.
As well as a top tackler who positions himself excellently, Oczipka is a wonderful dribbler who combines brilliantly with the midfielder in front of him, getting forward as often as possible to help his attack.
His seven assists in 17 Bundesliga games this season illustrate that, and that figure is rather higher than the two Baines has managed so far in the Premier League.
Baines has scored three times so far this campaign though, while Oczipka is yet to find the back of the net.
German star Oczipka can certainly improve his goalscoring then, but it seems rather harsh to judge a left back on his strike rate.
Because Oczipka only moved to his current club before the start of the current season, Manchester United appear more likely to be able to agree a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer.
