Bayern take the lead in race to sign Spaniard according to latest reports.
Manchester United could be set to miss out on Barcelona star Thiago Alcantara, after it emerged that Bayern Munich could pip them to his signature.
It is unclear at this stage as to how advanced talks are with the German giants, but the latest reports in Spain suggest that Pep Guardiola could persuade the 22-year-old to join him in Munich, according to ESPN.
It had appeared that the youngster was set for a move to Old Trafford this summer, with boss David Moyes confident of making the deal official in the coming weeks as the Red Devils begin their tour of East Asia and Australia.
However, it seems as though he could be set to miss out on his primary target as the Spanish international has been paired with a reunion with old boss Pep Guardiola.
Spanish media outlet Marca have reported that Thiago could be announced as a new Bayern player by Thursday, but there still doubts in Germany as to how the Barca man would fit in at the club.
Guardiola already has several options in midfield thus risking the possibility of over-indulging in the market. While Thiago’s ability is not up for debate, whether the reigning champions of Europe necessarily require him is another question.
Nevertheless, should the Bundesliga giants seal a deal for the youngster it will come as a huge blow for Moyes and United, who continue to look to bolster their options in midfield ahead of the new campaign.
