AS Roma look to have jumped to the front of the queue to sign Old Trafford star.
Roma are leading the chase to sign Manchester United winger Nani when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Nani has struggled to command a first-team place this season and looks set to be heading out of the exit door in January.
Reports in Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claim Roma are hoping to open talks with the player and want to finalise a deal in the near future.
Nani is unlikely to win back his place in the Manchester United side as Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia look to be first-choice.
The only stumbling block for Roma could be Nani’s wage demands as he is unlikely to take a pay-cut.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson appears to have lost faith in his winger Nani, preferring Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young in the wide positions.
The Portugal international can doubtless frustrate at times, particularly as upon his arrival at Old Trafford he was billed as Cristiano Ronaldo’s successor and immediately expected to perform equally as well.
Still, whilst that was always unrealistic, he possesses real quality, and it is no surprise to see big clubs across Europe interested in his signature.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Nani as a replacement for Theo Walcott, who could in turn move to Manchester United to renew his impressive partnership with Robin van Persie.
Juventus too are thought to be interested in signing him, but it appears that AS Roma are now leading the chase.
Whether that is the case in January remains to be seen.
