Promise of first-team football enough to persuade Spanish star.
Manchester United boss David Moyes is closing in on making Barcelona starlet Thiago Alcantara his first signing at Old Trafford.
According to the Daily Mirror. the highly-rated midfielder is set for a £15m switch to United as a result of a contract clause which stipulates his release fee is reduced after failing to play in over 60% of the games for the Catalans last year.
The 22-year-old is keen on playing as much football as possible next season as he looks to break into the senior Spanish squad having led the under-21s to glory at the European Championships earlier this month.
Given the doubts over receiving sufficient time on the pitch with Barca, he is ready to complete a switch to England and is now reportedly close to securing a move to the reigning Premier League champions.
They still face competition from the likes of Chelsea and Bayern Munich, but it is believed that negotiations with United are at an advanced stage and that Moyes is in pole position to land the much sought after youngster.
Former boss Sir Alex Ferguson had tried to prise Thiago away from Spain during his tenure at the club, but was unsuccessful as the player held out for a future with the Spanish giants.
However, with the circumstances now changing, he believes his best hope of making the World Cup in Brazil next summer is to look elsewhere and it is expected that a move to Manchester will be announced in the forthcoming weeks.
