The Premier League powerhouses battle for Everton’s Barkley.
Everton’s Ross Barkley has greatly impressed this season and now Manchester United and Chelsea are both keeping tabs on the midfielder, according to the Express.
The 19-year-old netted the starlet’s first goal for the Toffees in the club’s Premier League opener with Norwich City and has since been called up to the senior England squad by Roy Hodgson.
United enquired about the attacking midfielder when Barkley was 17, but were knocked back by the Merseyside outfit.
Red Devils boss David Moyes knows the teenager well having nurtured the young talent whilst in charge at Goodison Park.
The English champions also signed Wayne Rooney from the club back in 2003 and helped the forward become one of the greatest players the league has ever seen.
However, the Blues are also looking into the possibility of signing Barkley, having established a tactic of buying young, prodigious footballers.
In recent years the west London club have snapped up the likes of Thibaut Courtois, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku and then developed the youngsters via loan spells.
It’s unknown whether Barkley would want top leave Roberto Martinez’s side however, as the midfielder is a vital part of the first team currently.
It’s unlikely the Englishman would enjoy such a significant amount of game time if the player were to leave, but there is of course more chance of winning silverware at either Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge.
