The Bosnian is revelling after having confidence given back by the Chilean.
New Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is reaping the rewards of putting faith in striker Edin Dzeko as the Bosnia international starts the Premier League season superbly.
It was thought that the 27-year-old would be sold by City this summer after falling down the pecking order, but Pellegrini saw the talent in the forward.
“I spoke with him before I arrived here and told him that if he will stay here this year he must demonstrate the player that Manchester City bought two years ago,” the 59-year-old was quoted in the Mirror.
“Dzeko and a lot of players interest a lot of clubs. It’s very important for him to know that all of us trust him, not only me but also the other players, the club, everybody.”
Dzeko started the first match against Newcastle United ahead of new signing Alvaro Negredo and despite not scoring, was instrumental in two goals in the 4-0 victory.
In the second match of the campaign with new boys Cardiff City, the attacker went one better and repaid Pellegrini’s faith even further by netting the opener.
Dzeko was a £27m signing from VfL Wolfsburg in January 2011 and has since scored 41 goals in 111 appearances for City and set up 21 more strikes.
Despite Negredo and Stevan Jovetic having been signed for large transfer fees by Pellegrini, the coach always ensured the striker that playing time would be given.
So it has proved for Dzeko who is still keeping both of the new faces out of the side and it looks like a great season ahead for the forward.
