City want England international at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is planning a shock move for Chelsea left back Ashley Cole.
The 31-year-old looks set to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season on a free transfer after he was unable to agree a new deal with the club.
French club Paris St Germain are favourites to sign Cole where he could link up with his former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Chelsea’s absurd over 30s policy could see the West Londoners lose left-back Ashley Cole to title-rivals Manchester City.
It would be an extraordinary move but Cole has never shied away from controversy – as his move from London rivals Arsenal to Stamford Bridge in 2006 demonstrated.
It’s also fair to say that Cole enjoys the finer things in life and the England international is likely to offer his services to the highest bidder should he leave Stamford Bridge.
City are not short of cash and a move to bring Cole to the Etihad Stadium could be both wise and cost effective. Whilst the 31-year-old would demand a kings ransom, there are few left-backs of his quality in world football, let alone available on a free transfer.
Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov have been sharing left-back duties at City and neither has covered themselves in glory this term.
Cole is many things but his commitment and professionalism on the pitch have never been in question and the love-rat would undoubtedy improve Roberto Mancini’s first eleven.
As an over 30, Cole will only be offered a one-year deal by Chelsea and a similar issue could also see Frank Lampard leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.
The Chelsea man has racked up 276 appearances for the Blues and is into his seventh season at the club and has secured a Premier League title, four FA Cup successes and the Champions League crown during that period.
