City’s Belgian stopper thinks the club’s new signings are fantastic…
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has spoken very highly of his club’s new summer signings, reports Sky Sports.
The Citizens have invested heavily this transfer window under new boss Manuel Pellegrini, and have bought Fernandinho, Stevan Jovetic, Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo for considerable fees.
Kompany, City’s 27-year-old Belgian stopper believes everyone of the new recruits will play a big part in this season’s title race.
“You can see that whoever is responsible for bringing in the players at City did their homework really well,” said the world-class defender.
“They bring something different to the team and I’m sure they’ll have a great season.”
The Belgian was particularly complimentary about Spanish signing Negredo, who has impressed Kompany during training sessions.
“Alvaro has given us defenders an interesting time during training with his movement and finishing, his attitude as well is spot on,” he said.
“We’re having a lot of fun already. Jovetic you can see has great feet. I can’t say enough about Navas and all those that have joined us.”
City will hope that the new signings help wrestle the title off close rivals Manchester United, who won the Premier League last term under Sir Alex Ferguson with ease. Navas gives the team genuine pace down the right, which despite the flair of David Silva and Samir Nasri, the team lacked last season.
Fernandinho will be expected to start alongside Yaya Toure in midfield, while Alvaro Negredo will have to fight off the likes of Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko for a starting spot. Jovetic can play as a lone striker, but will be expected to play a more withdrawn role, possibly from the right, due to the abundance of striking talent they have at their disposal.
