Ronaldo is believed to be unhappy at the La Liga giants following a trophy-less season and has been heavily linked with a move back to Old Trafford.
According to Metro, United are prepared to offer £100m in return for its former star in what would be a world-record transfer fee.
Premier League rivals Chelsea are also said to be interested in the 30-year-old, but United remain the front-runners to snare the signature of the Portuguese international.
Metro’s report suggests United boss Louis van Gaal has been handed a generous transfer kitty to use this summer, and the capture of Ronaldo would surely put the Red Devils on track to reclaim the Premier League title.
Ronaldo has amassed a staggering 225 goals in 200 La Liga appearances for Real Madrid since joining the club in 2009.
