Red Devils to move for Hamburg defender.
Manchester United have reportedly made their move for highly-rated Hamburg defender Jonathan Tah.
United have been tracking the 16-year-old centre-back for months, but after he dallied over signing a new contract with Hamburg, Sir Alex Ferguson has made his move.
Sir Alex Ferguson may be approaching retirement (we’ve been saying that for years, haven’t we?) but the Scot cannot be accused of thinking short-term.
The United boss has ‘upped his game’ in recent seasons when it comes to the club’s youthful transfer policy, bringing the likes of Phil Jones, David de Gea, Nick Powell and Angelo Henriquez to Old Trafford.
And Fergie is looking to further strengthen his (successor’s) defence with a move for talented German under-17 international Tah.
Bayern Munich and Arsenal are also keeping an eye on the Hamburg teenager, who can apparently be picked up for as little as a £300k compensation fee, despite having two years left on his current contract.
Man United have seen their defence leak goals with alarming regularity this season and, with Rio Ferdinand in the twilight of his career, and 30-year-old skipper Nemanja Vidic perennially injured, there is certainly scope for bringing in young talents who can push for a starting berth in two to three years’ time.
