Red Devils eye January move for Benfica stopper. With captain Nemanja Vidic also struggling of late with knee problems, Ferguson has already started to look at ways of freshening up his squad.
Recently, for example, Ferguson sent scouts to watch £15million-rated Argentinian defender Ezequiel Garay play for Portuguese club Benfica in games against Sporting Lisbon and Olhanense.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has already claimed the club will make no new additions in January but the Scot will know his defence has been in disarray so far this term, with veteran Rio Ferdinand playing more often than Ferguson would have ideally liked.
The 34-year-old has had to step-in following injuries to Nemanja Vidic, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans and has looked off the pace at times, particularly during United’s shock defeat to Tottenham at Old Trafford and 4-3 win over Reading.
This source goes on to state that Ferdinand is on his way out at Old Trafford, with QPR and West Ham interested, and that the Red Devils are keen on former Real Madrid man Ezequiel Garay, a player who has been in excellent form at Benfica over the past 18 months.
The Argentine international struggled to retain a spot in the Bernabeu first-team following his high-profile move to the Spanish giants in the summer of 2008 but left the club for Lisbon and has seen his career re-ignite at the Estádio da Luz.
Garay would probably jump at the chance of a move to Man United and his displays at Benfica must have impressed watching scouts. He has helped Jorge Jesus’s side to the top of the Primeira Liga, having conceded just eight goals in 12 games thus far this season.
