Arsenal have been linked with the Spanish striker throughout the transfer window but had reportedly pulled out of a move after being put off by the Catalan club’s asking price.
But now that Manchester City have sold maverick striker Mario Balotelli to AC Milan, a space has opened up in their squad and they are ready to splash the cash to land their man.
It is reported that a bid in excess of £15 million is likely to be enough to secure the signature of the World Cup winner.
Although Barcelona were quite keen to hold on to the player, it is rumoured that former Barcelona officials Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain have used their contacts at the La Liga giants to push a deal through.
Villa has struggled for first team action this season after missing almost the entirety of last season with a broken leg. The 31 year old is keen to return to first team action soon and is willing to consider a Nou Camp exit in pursuit of that goal.
