On-loan Chelsea striker set to extend stay at Hawthorns.
On-loan Chelsea centre forward Romelu Lukaku will extend his stay at West Brom, according to Sky Sports.
The Belgian international will now remain at the Midlands club until the end of the season.
Chelsea has been rumoured to be considering recalling the strong centre forward.
But with the Blues having sealed the signing of Demba Ba earlier this month, the London club have chosen not to recall the player.
A clause in the player’s contract reportedly allowed Chelsea to bring Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge in January but would have had to have done so by the 7th.
That deadline has now passed and so the teenage striker will see out the season at the Hawthorns.
Lukaku is West Brom’s top scorer this season with seven goals in the league.
He has played a key role in a West Brom side that have surprised many this season, entering the New Year in a lofty seventh position.
Lukaku had previously expressed his desire to stay at The Baggies stating ‘I’ve had a lot of contact with Chelsea and I’m happy here. I have a great rapport with the manager. He challenges me mentally. If I don’t play, it’s challenging to do more. I want to develop. For me, it is a one-year loan. Then it may be another year again because I need to play as much as I can.’
