Controverisal Uruguayan striker waves at fans as he sits out Premier League opener…
Luis Suarez saluted the Anfield faithful as he entered Liverpool’s ground, following a difficult summer for both the player and the club.
The 26-year-old striker waved at fans as he entered the iconic stadium on the opening day of the Premier League season. He sat out the game as he is still serving a ten match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic towards the end of last season.
Liverpool beat Stoke 1-0 thanks to Daniel Sturridge’s strike, but were made to sweat when the visitors were awarded a penalty towards the end of the match.
Suarez is expected to stay at Liverpool despite his scathing attack on the club last week, and Brendan Rodgers has demanded an apology, which is still pending.
However, the charismatic forward greeted Liverpool fans respectfully. Reports from his home country claimed Suarez has chosen to stay at Anfield because of the warmth the fans have shown him, but he has since denied ever making a statement.
Liverpool will refuse to sell the striker to a Premier League club, meaning the chances of Suarez joining Arsenal are very remote. If Real Madrid miss out on Gareth Bale though, they could reignite an interest in the forward.
