Liverpool star is flattered by Arsenal bid, but scoffs at Chelsea’s interest.
In a move that will irritate Liverpool fans on one hand, and please them on the other, Luis Suarez has dismissed a link to Chelsea, but welcomed Arsenal’s interest, reports to Sky Sports.
“There have been no offers yet, but Liverpool know exactly what is going on and what I want,” Suarez told Uruguayan radio station Sport 890.
“My agent is in charge, he knows what I want, I am resting and relaxed. I am due back in about ten days, on 21 July, but a phone call could change everything.
“It’s good to know that I am still valued by teams like Arsenal. Friends call me up to ask if I am moving to Chelsea, to which I laugh.”
Suarez’s comments will do nothing to appease the Liverpool fans that have virtually accepted the fact that their star striker will not be with them next season. His agent Pere Guardiola went to the club’s Melwood training facility on Monday to discuss his client’s future with Brendan Rodgers and managing director Ian Ayre.
It is unlikely that Liverpool will sell Luis Suarez to a rival Premier League side, and certainly not for the £30 million that they rejected from Arsenal earlier in the week.
Merseyside journalist Graham Beecroft has confirmed this, but has reiterated the fact that Suarez still wants to leave Anfield.
“I think it’s extremely unlikely that either Chelsea and Arsenal will sign him but it looks as though Suarez wants out and Liverpool will be holding out for considerably more than £30million,” he told talkSPORT.
Chelsea appear to have missed out on their two top forward targets this summer, with Radamel Falcao joining big-spending Monaco, and Edinson Cavani poised to join their French rivals PSG.
Arsenal have been strongly linked to Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain, but a deal has not yet been confirmed.
