It was murmured in recent seasons that Liverpool’s legendary captain was past his best, and was no longer the influential figure at Anfield he once was. In his new anchoring midfield role though, Gerrard has rediscovered his inspirational form. He’s scored ten penalties this term, missing just the one, and shone as a deep-lying playmaker. At times, he’s Liverpool’s deepest outfield player, which gives him the time and space to use his brilliant diagonal passes.
