Sakho reckons his new team will reach the top four…
Liverpool’s biggest signing of the summer, French centre-back Mamadou Sakho, thinks his new side will be playing Champions League football in no time at all, he told the club’s official website.
The Reds are currently enjoying their best start to a Premier League season since 1994/95, following Sunday’s 1-0 win against Manchester United, and sit at the top of the table. Supporters will be more than happy with a fourth place finish however, and hope that £14m powerhouse Sakho will help them achieve their aims.
At just 23-years-old, Sakho has already won 14 caps for France, and can play at left-back, too. He joins Simon Mignolet, Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas, Tiago Ilori, Victor Moses and Aly Cissokho at Anfield this summer, and has high hopes for his new side this season.
“My aim while I am here is to play in the Champions League with Liverpool,” he said.
“I remember their teams when they were in the competition when I was younger.
“The Champions League is a tournament that all the great clubs in Europe participate in and that’s where we need to get to,” Sakho continued. Liverpool haven’t played in the tournament since the 2009/10 season, and will be desperate to get back in the tournament they won in 2005, and made the final in 2007.
“With the team we have, and the means put at the disposal of the players, the technical support and the whole club and its supporters are in a good position to get there. This is our objective.”
