Madrid’s Callejon to snub England for Serie A.
Real Madrid’s Jose Callejon has agreed to join Serie A runners-up Napoli and has snubbed the chance to go to Liverpool, reports La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
The Reds had been eyeing up a move for the Spaniard when it became apparent that Callejon was unwanted at the Santiago Bernabeu by new manager Carlo Ancelotti.
However, the 26-year-old has rejected the chance to go to Anfield and instead will link up with former Merseyside boss Rafael Benitez – who has recently been appointed in Naples.
Napoli are seeking new attacking options with Edison Cavani expected to leave the club at some point this summer, although whether it is to Chelsea, Manchester City or Madrid depends on which interested side are prepared to activate the Uruguayan’s £54m release clause.
Callejon meanwhile was touted as a Los Blancos departure under Ancelotti due to the amount of players ahead of the former Spain under-21 international on the wing.
The ex-Espanyol forward prefers to operate on the right-wing but Madrid already have Angel Di Maria at the club, as well as youngsters such as Jese waiting to be given their chance.
Whereas Callejon at 26 is past being labeled as a promising youngster and the 2012 La Liga champions are ready to cash-in on the winger.
The Spaniard has managed to start just 36 matches for Madrid since returning to the club for £4.4m from Espanyol in 2011, having spent three years at the Barcelona side since progressing from the youth system at the Bernabeu.
