Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic is expected to leave his team, as the club will no longer be able to afford his salary after making two key signings.
The club will have to get rid of Kovacic’s contract in order to pay for their newly acquired players, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Giannelli Imbula.
Liverpool has decided to pursue Kovacic as a result, and they are reportedly prepared to meet his valuation that is worth £17.8m, but they will have to pay another £3.5m to fully match his transfer value.
Kovacic will make a valuable addition to Liverpool, as they are in need of midfield depth after losing veteran Steven Gerrard to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Croatia international scored five goals for Inter Milan in the 2014-15 season.
Manager Brendan Rodgers will look to bring out his full potential as he is only 21 years old.
Liverpool is also in the midst of pursuing Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.
