Reds want Tiago Ilori to help replace Carrra at Anfield.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has stepped up his chase for a new centre-half with a £4m bid for Sporting Lisbon youngster Tiago Ilori, reports the Daily Mirror.
Rodgers is desperate for defensive reinforcements this summer, with veteran Jamie Carragher set to retire and doubts over the future of Martin Srktel and Sebastian Coates.
The Kop boss tabled his offer for 20-year-old Ilori on Wednesday and the Portuguese outfit are set to give Liverpool a quick response.
Ilori was born in London but has represented Portugal at under-20 level. He has made nine appearances for Sporting since making his debut for the club in February.
The 6’3″ centre-back is highly-rated in Portugal, and has caught the eye with some towering aerial performances, coupled with composure on the ball.
Rodgers has reportedly identified Ilori as one of three new defensive recruits this summer, with FC Twente’s Douglas also on the Reds’ radar.
