Reds will try and sign Damiao if fellow Brazilian Willian doesn’t join…
Liverpool will sign Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao if they are unable to secure a deal for Anzhi Makhachkala playmaker Willian, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Reds are also heavily interested in 25-year-old Willian, but if the player decides to join a Premier league rival such as Spurs or Manchester United, which is very possible, they will turn their attentions to his younger Brazilian counterpart Damiao.
The Internacional forward spearheads the attack for his club, so would not be used in the same way as Willian at Anfield. Damiao would likely be used as a rotation option with Daniel Sturridge, and Luis Suarez if the forward stays at Anfield, whereas Willian would play from the left wing, cutting in on his dangerous right boot.
Damiao, the 24-year-old Brazil international, would likely cost around £15m, and has scored an impressive 83 goals in the past four seasons. Despite being heavily linked with various clubs around Europe, no move has ever materialised, and the old-fashioned forward will be keen to establish himself in an elite European side to confirm his place in next summer’s Brazil World Cup squad.
